The Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 performed a number of searches at premises linked to Jharkhand Finance Minister Rameshwar Oroan’s son Rohit Oraon and a few others as a part of a cash laundering investigation linked to an alleged liquor rip-off within the State, official sources mentioned.

About 34 premises in state capital Ranchi, Dumka, Deoghar and Godda districts are being coated by the officers of the central probe company together with a safety cowl of the CRPF.

The premises of the senior Oraon are being coated as the daddy and the son reside on the identical location. Enterprise and residential premises of some liquor businessmen are additionally being coated, they mentioned.

Rameshwar Oraon, 76, represents the Lohardaga (ST) meeting seat of the state that he gained on a Congress ticket. He holds the cost of finance, planning and industrial tax within the Jharkhand cupboard led by Chief Minister Hemant Soren.

Rameshwar Oraon has earlier served as a Union cupboard minister too beneath the then prime minister Manmohan Singh and is a retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the 1972 batch.
