As a part of the federal government’s market intervention efforts, the Agriculture division will open 2,000 farmers’ markets for Onam within the State.
Agriculture Minister P. Prasad will carry out the State-level inauguration of the initiative close to the Alappuzha municipal workplace on Thursday at 10 a.m. Fisheries Minister Saji Cherian will preside.
Officers mentioned the markets would operate from August 25 to twenty-eight. Domestically grown greens shall be procured from farmers at a ten% increased worth than the market charge. Will probably be made accessible to clients at 30% low cost. Good Agricultural Practices-certified merchandise procured from farmers at a 20% increased worth shall be offered at a ten% low cost at these markets.
The division is organising the Onam markets in affiliation with Kerala State Horticultural Merchandise Growth Company (Horticorp), and Vegetable and Fruit Promotion Council, Keralam (VFPCK). Officers mentioned that every market can be given ₹65,000. Of the quantity, ₹50,000-₹55,000 can be used for procuring vegetables and fruit. The remainder of the quantity can be for establishing stalls amongst different bills.
In Alappuzha, 78 markets can be run by respective Krishi Bhavans. Apart from, Horticorp would open 53 markets and VFPCK 12. Officers mentioned that greens offered via markets in Alappuzha can be procured largely from Palamel, Venmony, and Cherthala areas. Procurement would even be accomplished from different districts and neighbouring States. Winter greens can be procured from farmers in Idukki.
Other than organising markets, cellular ‘Horti Shops’ of Horticorp would traverse the district from August 25.
